The judge, ex officio or at the request of a party, for reasons of utility, security or public order, as well as in those cases in which the appearance of the person who must intervene in any type of criminal procedure as an investigated or accused person, witness, expert, or in another condition that is particularly burdensome or harmful, may agree that the appearance be carried out through videoconference or another similar system that allows bidirectional and simultaneous communication of image and sound, in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of article 229 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.
